The dark knight and mamma mia?
1) Which has been the most successful? and will be after all the dvd sales etc?
2) The dark knight still seems to be in top 3 of americas box office, and is doing well world wide! BUT mamma mia is number 2 in UK after 8 weeks, dark knights number 5 after 6. Considering Dark Knight is top of americas and world wides box office, but mamma mia the uk. Which one is the most successful overall?
3) Is it ridiculous to think that mamma mias done better than dark knight?
4) Does Sky Movies annual top 10 movies that have made the most money, base it on the UK profits alone or world wide, us?

1) Absolutely the Dark Knight. The reason-families. Mama Mia appeals to adults and the Dark Knight to all ages. Mass marketing for action toys will also increase DVD sales. Action movies featuring super heroes are favorites of families as the kids will watch it over and over.
2) The Dark Knight’s numbers are through the roof. Mamma Mia had a shorter and smaller distribution in the US. It will be shown in fewer places for a shorter time through the world. It has a smaller target audience.
3) Better is a relative word. MM being better received by adults, better with females probably yes in those two areas. A movies’ success isn’t only judged on initial box office. Many movies are judged better by time. For example, “Its a Wonderful Life” the famous Christmas movie was a bomb when it was first released. Mamma Mia is a stage musical. Movies made from stage musicals seem to have a long shelf life. Action Hero movies usually fade as their special effects become dated.

5) The Dark Knight-because I am the mother of a teenaged son and the movie appealed to the whole family. I was the only one who wanted to go see Mamma Mia. I had seen the stage show and I am old enough to know all the lyrics.
